Shimanami Movie Festival

A few days ago, I safely made it back to Ikuchijima!

From today, the Shimanami Film Festival will be held over three days—September 13, 14, and 15—and on the 20th, 21st, and 23rd.

This event, which started last year, takes place along the Shimanami Kaidō, the route connecting Onomichi in Hiroshima Prefecture with Imabari in Ehime Prefecture. It’s not just about movies—you can also enjoy music, art, food, and truly experience the charm of the islands.

It looks like the festival has leveled up from last year. This time, a performance group based in Fiji will be appearing at HAKKO PARK on Innoshima (the island just north of Ikuchijima, run by Manda Fermentation Co., famous for their Manda Enzyme products). They’ll be showcasing their original dance performances, and on top of that,Tomona Yabiku—the voice of Moana in Moana and the singer of the film’s theme song—will be doing a mini live concert! Sounds like it’s going to be an incredible event!

In addition to the films and live performances, it looks like there will also be local markets (marche) held on Ikuchijima, Innoshima, and Ōmishima!

If you’re in the area, definitely check it out!
